A Virtual Defined
A Virtual is the product name for a three-dimensional reproduction of a piece of clothing
A Virtual is made digitally by putting together pieces of the pattern and placing it on a
mannequin Stitching process
Fabrics and accessories such as buttons, buckles and stitches can be added to the pattern
pieces, providing a realistic image of an idea for both the fit and the creative/commercial
styling
A Virtual is finished once all stages (fit, styling, design, adjustments in design) of pattern/product
development are passed.
When a Virtual is finished, it can be shown in every combination of fabric, color and material
that is desired
The following components are linked to the Virtual as a product:
The three-dimensional reproduction of the model/design, which can be viewed and
photographed from every angle and distance imaginable, to be reviewed by stylists, sales and
marketing teams
Snapshots, a photo-shoot of the design which, for example, can be put in a power point
presentation. This makes it simple to share and very accessible via computer
Worksheets. These are images of the clothing and details without a mannequin, taken from
every position that is relevant for the production of the samples or series, complete with seam
details and the (technical) description for the processing of all the parts
The pattern. This is the hull pattern, used when creating the virtual prototype and made ready
for production by the manufacturer, with it’s own technical specifications.
